Dear General Clark: Please run for president. I am so worried about the state of our young people in Iraq. Members of my family have been in the military and none of us can believe the soldiers speaking out so loudly on television. I am 55 and have never heard that before. Something is terribly wrong. We hear about the soldiers being killed, and now the many amputees and now some kind of pneumonia that has killed two of our soldiers. Why are we there? I saw one of the trucks over on its side burning and I assume a soldier inside and no Iraqui ever goes to assist our soldiers. They are glad Saddam is gone and now they want us out to run their own affairs. To them, we are an occupying power and as soon as the electricity and water is on, the Shia will rise and turn against us. Why didn't we stay in Afghanistan; the Taliban and Al Quaeda is regrouping and I understand they are now also in Iraq. They weren't before, but are now. It is a terrible feeling we have out here, even though I know the majority of Americans support it, but as time goes on, I know the impatience of the American people, and all we will have is the loss of our treasure and our young people. Please run - I know they will try to destroy you because you would have a serious chance. They will stop at nothing, but I am sure you are taking all this into account with your family. You will note that I make reference to the two public figures (you and him) that I most trust to tell me the real truth. 7/01/03 Dear Senator Biden, I first heard your speech given live to the Brookings Institution yesterday on c-span radio. Subsequently I had to come home and watch it on c-span TV. It was inspiring to hear someone get so much, so right, without all of the political rhetoric. You cut straight to the problems, offered solutions, and most importantly, emphasized the EXTREME IMPORTANCE of THOROUGHLY COMPLETING our mission on our overzealous approach to the Iraq problem. You've shown to have an excellent grasp of the situation, and what it will take to complete the job. You were on the ground there recently with the people, and your comments relating to their daily problems and concerns was most insightful. Our news media only gives us little sound bits that many times appear to be designed to appeal to our nationalism. I was so impressed that I felt compelled to write this note to you. One who is up to the challenge of our uncertain times. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- August 2, 2003 Muting the Call to Service By DAVE EGGERS AN FRANCISCO A little over a week ago, in New Orleans, I met two young women who had driven hours, through the heat of July, in rural Louisiana, to talk to me about tutoring kids. Sarah Garb and Megan Peterson are both in their early 20's, both graduates of very good colleges, and both have been living in Clinton, a tiny Louisiana town far from any large city, a town with quite literally one stoplight. They were Teach for America participants who had committed two years of their lives to teaching in low-performing schools. After they talked with me and a pair of men who run a tutoring center through Tulane University, it was 11 p.m., and time for them to drive back. I just finished a tour where I spoke to would-be volunteers in nine cities about the number of public school students who can use their help and spare time, in whatever quantities, for tutoring and mentoring. Eighteen months ago, a few friends and I started a nonprofit afterschool tutoring program in San Francisco called 826 Valencia. Our goal was to make it easy for volunteers to help students between the ages of 8 and 18 with their English and writing skills. Because we're flexible about volunteers' time commitments and because the teachers of San Francisco are burdened with ever-increasing class sizes and diminished resources, we've been overflowing with volunteers and our programs are growing every month. The need is there, and people want to help. But Sarah Garb and Megan Peterson, the two teachers from Clinton, went much further than just helping out in their spare time, as the volunteers at 826 Valencia do. When I met them, they were not what one would think of as born crusaders, and they certainly didn't grow up thinking they would one day be teaching in rural Louisiana. They looked very much like two people who might be living in Lincoln Park in Chicago, or the Upper East Side, or the Marina District in San Francisco, enjoying considerably more comfortable lives. But instead they were far from all of that, struggling every day, earning just above minimum wage, and every day making a huge difference in the lives of the fifth and sixth graders whom they were teaching. And more remarkably, they had chosen to stay. That is, after their two-year commitment expired in June — they made arrangements with the school district to stay, perhaps indefinitely, in Clinton. The power of Teach for America is that it can redirect lives, it can make bright young people aware of where they're most needed and where they'll find the most rewarding work. This is why we need Teach for America, and why we need AmeriCorps, the national service program that helps finance Teach for America and other initiatives (Habitat for Humanity and Save the Children, for example). AmeriCorps gives annual grants to 50,000 volunteers, who serve up to a year and receive an award of $4,725 toward higher education as well as a modest living allowance. Last year, AmeriCorps made it possible to bring thousands of full-time teachers to hundreds of schools, from New Mexico's Navajo Nation to the District of Columbia. And lest you consider AmeriCorps a program made up of wealthy white college graduates padding their résumés: I recently visited the San Jose, Calif., chapter of City Year, another AmeriCorps-sponsored program. Here, volunteers help in schools, run theater workshops and provide afterschool programs during the week and learning programs for middle and high school students on the weekends. The volunteers I met represented the broadest spectrum of race, ethnicity and economic background imaginable. There was a 20-year-old single mother trying to raise two children on an AmeriCorps stipend and a 19-year-old Princeton-bound volunteer from Las Vegas. They were an inspiring group — all energized, all ready to do what they were called upon to do, all even wearing matching uniforms — white shirts, tan shorts. AmeriCorps — and the initiatives it supports — has become, for an entire generation, the model for service. But unless something is done very soon, the number of AmeriCorps participants will be slashed by as much as 50 percent in the next few months. Five of the 13 City Year programs will be forced to shut down, leaving tens of thousands of students around the country without the benefit of its tutoring, mentoring and literacy efforts. AmeriCorps needs an emergency infusion of $100 million just to maintain its current operations. While the Senate voted to appropriate the money, the House of Representatives refused to approve the emergency funds — and then adjourned for the summer. Meanwhile, the administration has been largely silent — and it remains unclear whether it will press Congress to provide the funds in September. Which is confusing, considering how vocal President Bush has been about the need to maintain and even expand our national service programs. At one time, in fact, the president proposed expanding AmeriCorps to 75,000 members. "We need more talented teachers in troubled schools," the president said in his 2002 State of the Union address, the first after 9/11. "U.S.A. Freedom Corps will expand and improve the good efforts of AmeriCorps and Senior Corps to recruit more than 200,000 new volunteers." It was the president's words that encouraged young people to send in AmeriCorps applications. Thousands of outrageously qualified applicants were prepared to quit high-paying jobs, to put off graduate school, to move to, say, rural Louisiana — all in the name of national service, in the name of doing something selfless for a country that needed healing. AmeriCorps approved new volunteer slots and assumed it had the support of Congress and the president. Now, on the eve of a new school year, Congress and the White House have turned their backs on these volunteers. Must we note that the $100 million that could save AmeriCorps is less than one-tenth of what we spend in Iraq every week? Is it too obvious to mention that the president, who long scorned nation-building abroad while encouraging education here at home, is now clearly choosing the former over the latter? It's no secret that many in the G.O.P. have long favored the dissolution of AmeriCorps. And though the process won't necessarily be speedy, Republicans in the House are well on their way to making the program a thing of the past. And what happens then? Who or what steps into the chasm created by the White House's failure to act? No one knows. But what is certain is that a generation that was beginning to engage with government, with citizenship and service, will be abandoned, and will be given good reason to shrug back into an easy and familiar, "Well, what did you expect?" sort of cynicism. In fact, the best and most idealistic members of this generation are the ones who will feel most betrayed. Preventing this is within Washington's power — and $100 million is, relatively speaking, a paltry amount to pay for keeping alive the volunteer spirit of the youth of this country. Dear General Clark: I had the opportunity today to watch your appearance on "Crossfire" and I am quite impressed with you. I have taken note of your military career over the years, which is an excellent preparation for political leadership in many ways. I hope that you will run as a Democrat in 2004. I am a long-time liberal Democrat. Both of my grandfathers worked as copper miners in Montana, one of them having died in a mining accident at age 48. I knew neither of them, but feel strongly that hard-working people need to be given a better share of the American dream. My family moved to California in 1956 (I was 4 at the time), so I have a California suburban background. I received an excellent public education from kindergarten through the University of California. I am the first of a few dozen grandchildren to graduate from college. I feel that I have this advantage in life because of the hard work of my father, grandfathers, and other who went before me. I opposed the Viet Nam War, yet enlisted in order to fulfill a duty I feel I have and others have to serve their country. I served in the Navy for 4 years and attended college on G.I. Bill. I believe that we need a strong leader who really ius a genuine leader and not a marketing front for unseen forces. I feel that the war in Iraq is a disgrace to our nation and an extreme danger to the fine men and women who serve in our armed forces. My nephew is a Marine, currently serving on active duty. George W. Bush presented himself as a moderate, as someone who opposed "nation-building", opposed intervention in countries like Iraq, and who has given away millions and millions of dollars in tax cuts primarily for the rich, while the nation, at the very least, needs more funding to cover security costs of occupying Iraq and protecting our nation. Shifting the tax burden more heavily onto the shoulders of the middle class is an abomination and is currently setting our economy on a disastrous course. Every appearance is a "photo op" for Bush, every speech an opportunity for stretching the truth and avoiding responsibility for his own actions. Going it alone as a nation is a fooolish course of action and we have lost almost every ounce of good faith that was given to us by the world after Sept. 11, 2001. Run for office. Tell the truth. Offer the nation a choice of a real man with principles and follow-through. If nothing else, please replace the embarassing fool that currently represents this nation. Thank you. James P. Dear General Clark, My wife and I have heard some of your views during Congressional testimony and on the talk shows. You seem to project the views and personal qualities that many patriots (who happen to be Democrats!) are desperately looking for in a President. This country (and world we are compelled to lead) is in very serious trouble. We have an emotionally immature, inexperienced President who should never have been a candidate. Dear General Clark: "It's a dirty job..." they say. I'm sure it's not always as uplifting as the cheering crowds. And I am sure that the other candidates know this. But President Bush does not. Moreover, you had, perhaps, the dirtiest job in the western hemisphere since the Belgian Army of 1914. Most of Eurpope would have accepted a return of the Hapsburgs rather than face what needed to be done in the Balkans. It is because of those actions (and their embodiment of America's idealism) that I want to encourage you to run. My grandfather was in the 4th Marine Battalion in the Pacific. Yet he, and I, do not consider only those soldiers as "the Greatest Generation." There is too much possibility now for some to surpass anything that has gone before. I have been ashamed of my country, sir. And I know there are many who feel as I do. We do not want to feel that way. And I think that wanting to shed that shame is a sign of patriotism, despite what our leaders say. I am trying to contain much more than I should in this letter. But let me summarize to you, why I hope you will run: Even in the Esquire article (and not a policy journal) you spoke of things that a typical candidate would shy from, i.e. things that would require people to engage and learn why a policy is important (specifically: the Cabinet Post for Nation Building). Believe me sir, people will listen, and people will learn. They want America to be great. You can tell them how this can happen. General, we need someone who knows that America is more than its gold-fringed battle flag; more than a screaming eagle. I am sometimes bothered by the jingoistic refrain: "This is the greatest country in the world." But my discomfort is from knowing that people do not count the Kosovo campaign. They think of the bombs, not the food, dropped in Afghanistan (if only we had dropped it earlier!). I am a thirty-one year old who still owes more in college loan debt than I will earn this year. And I have hope. It seems to me that you share a similar hope about just how much good can be done within the system of government we have. General Clark, America needs you. Greetings General Clark, I have recently become aware of the grassroots campaign to encourage your entry into the race for the Democratic Presidential nomination. Upon researching various web-media concerning your background/achievements and your general stance on key national policy issues, I find myself favoring you over any of the other Democratic candidates by a substantial margin. Your personal and philosophical commitment to human dignity and well-being, combined with consistently impressive pragmatism, partnering and leadership give me hope for a return of integrity to the Presidency (and by association, the country). You no doubt see the moral and philosophical shortcomings of the current administration and the neo-conservative cultural revolutionaries that pull its strings. They are quite simply unworthy to lead us. Their damage to the American soul and stature is profound and frightening. They disregard accountability, truth and dignity in favor of the dismantling of the social contract between government and the citizenry in favor of an autocratic, shadow government. The need is clear, General Clark. They MUST be stopped. I believe that you possess the ideal traits to achieve this goal. Several of the other DNC candidates are also extraordinary men capable of waking America from its stunned reverie, but I believe that you are the best champion at this moment, for this daunting task. It seems unlikely that a person with your resume of accomplishments would be inclined to self-doubt, and I certainly do not "know" you. That said, I am confident (intuitively) that an increase in familiarity would fortify my confidence in/advocacy for your thoughtful, dignified leadership, and not diminish it. I have been an early supporter of Howard Dean, actually sent $100 in support (I only make $29K/yr) and have great admiration for the man, but his rhetoric lacks the credibility/dignity necessary to inspire the legions of disenfranchised moderate Republicans. They are absolutely ripe for the picking, given a centrist Democrat such as you. In their minds, it would be like being able to atone for the tragic and disastrous GOP backstabbing of John McCain (another admirable public servant and man of ethics) in 2000. Of course running for the Presidency will place you and your family in the "line of fire" and is a tremendous personal sacrifice. General Clark, When partisan politics have run amok to the point where state congressmen and senators have to literally run and hide in another state, we need a dose of moderation. When the Senate Judicial committee chairman can say right on C-SPAN, that's the way I interpret the rules so that is the way it will be and ram-rods through a judicial nominee clearly unqualified, it is time for moderation. When at that same hearing, the distinguished Senator Arlen Spector,(R-PA), a moderate Republican this Democrat has consistently and proudly voted for, votes in favor of the same judicial nominee because he is so fearful his re-election in 2004 will be in ruins if he doesn't,it is time for moderation. When a governor can be put up for recall by the dubious instigation and financing of a multi-millionaire zealot, who just happens to also want to be governor, we need moderation. When a president can tell the world, "Bring it on," like some common street thug, we need moderation. Lastly, when moderate Americans are so disgusted with the nasty tone our political system has taken that they no longer even bother to vote, we need moderation. We need a man that will bring our nation's people back together for a common good. In this new era of world interconnectedness, by virtue of our wealth and our military, the United States is a de facto global leader. We can chose to be a leader of the world, defending and supporting the principles that make this country great, or bluntly and crassly defend our own economic and political self-interests in the delusion that such a thing is still possible. Our current President has no understanding of the intricacies of either world affairs or domestic issues, and rather than responding by learning, studying and engaging experts of the past, he has maintained that they are all simple. Failing schools and underperforming students? Make teachers into factory workers by making them teach to a single test. Decentralized terrorists and asymmetrical threats changing the face of warfare as we know it? Bomb 'em. National security of America dependent on both military strength and international goodwill? Who needs goodwill, Bring 'em on, he says. We need an eloquent voice and a qualified candidate to fight for a fair hearing of the much less both sides of the argument. I have been very impressed with your skills and experience, especially with your complex understanding of complex issues. I am a lifelong democrat, but only recently have I been so moved as to pledge to give money to unseat Bush. In talking with all my friends, we all agree that you would be a perfect candidate, and even though most of us are poor graduate students, we would gladly give you as much money as we can spare. I am sure many of us would also be willing to donate time as well.

I heard you speak at PC Forum in 2002 and was very impressed by your thoughtful statements. At the end of the talk I could not tell whether you were a Democrat or a Republican which is definitely a good thing. American politics needs to find a new direction. It need move away from the partisan politics and entrenched interests that make it so disconnected from the actual will of the people. Ideally you could run as an independant, but I do not believe that to be practical. The Democratic candidacy allows for the opportunity to not just be heard, but to actually win. Dear General Clark, As a college student who studies history, I believe this coming election is the most important not only in the history of America, but the entire world. At home, the Bush administration has the clear agenda of turning the United States into a third world society. The regressive tax cuts for the wealthy have bankrupted the country, allowing Bush to cut the minimal amount of GDP spent on social safety net programs. The assault will surely continue after 2004, as Republicans take aim at ending Medicaid, Head Start, Americorps, and Social Security. The adminstration has waged an assult on the constitution via John Ashcroft's PATRIOT Act, which has rendered civil rights null and void. After 2004, the Bush administration will use a sympathetic Supreme Court to official end what they consider "unnecessary" civil and human rights. Internationally, Bush's neoconservative imperialist pursuits weaken our homeland security and provide us with millions of more enemies. The rise of nuclear weapons in the last fifty years means the survival of man as a species is no longer certain. By ignoring the threat of North Korea, abandoning the United Nations and international law, and pursuing an ignorant imperialist agenda, President Bush's actions bring us closer to nuclear war. By pulling out of the International Criminal Court, Bush proves that his foreign policy agenda will not even consider human rights an issue unless it is politically expedient in speeches. His environmental legacy is even more dangerous, as he has undermined the Kyoto Protocol and relaxed restrictions on chemical and oil companies. If Bush is reelected, this country will not resemble the Democracy we once knew. Democracy is defined by the rule of law and civil rights, The Bush administrations clear disdain for these basic liberties means citizens will forfeit their constitutional rights and never regain them. To the independent historian, their actions are eerily reminiscent of the Nazi destruction of the vibrant democracy in the Weiman Republic. Too often, historians look at disasters and remorsefully say, "We should have known the threat back then." Domestically, Bush presents the greatest threat to our democracy by undermining the very freedoms that allow it to function. Internationally, President Bush's pursuit of a new American Empire threatens the global order because of its narrow goal of enriching the wealthy. General Clark, this country needs you. The current field of Democrats clearly does not have the contender who can eliminate the reactionary menace eroding the freedom in our country. You can beat Bush because not only because of your national security credentials, but because your ideas are better. The Iraq war has made him a "popular" president, but those polls are a short-term boost that will evaporate by election time. The economy continues to sink, and the human and financial cost of the Iraq war make Bush extremely vulnerable. He is beatable in a general election. Karl Rove and the cabal of Bush handlers fear your candidacy more than anything else. They understand Bush's presidency resembles Herbert Hoover more than Ronald Reagan. Now it is time for you to become our FDR, a leader who makes us proud of our country again, a President who restores our civil rights and secures world peace through international law. Please run General Clark. Otherwise, the next ten years will surely see the use of nuclear weapons the the erosion of this democracy. Once again we will say, "We should have known." Like you, I am increasingly concerned, if not alarmed, by the policies of the Bush administration. His administration's arrogance offends me. Like you, I believe the rationale for the war in Iraq was faulty. At a minimum this war was premature and probably unnecessary as I do not believe that Iraq was an imminent threat to us. I believe the Bush administration's foreign policy has alienated our traditional allies and has done serious damage for my hope that my children and grandchildren will grow up in a peaceful world. Bush's economic policies have further widened the gap between the rich and the poor and has set our Country's economy back several decades. His tax cuts are misdirected and he pursues political expediency without fiscal restraint. I believe that American that integrity in American politics has been eroding , partisanship is more important than the good of the nation, and money and short-term materialism decide national policy. You appear to be a man who can help reverse these trends. You do not appear to be a traditional politician. Your military experience will be very valuable in helping us through the quagmire that the Bush administration has engineered. I am sure that you can find many intelligent, talented and honest men and women who help you do what needs to be done. I just finished reading the biography of Dwight Eisenhower and was impressed by how he was able to keep down national paranoia and excessive defense spending because of his military stature. Hopefully, you can do the same for America now. They vote for a war based on lies, give huge tax breaks to the wealthy, and ignore the needy here. In the U.S., 44 million people have no health insurance, with the number increasing with unemployment (3 million jobs have been lost since Bush took office). 18,314 people die every year because of lack of insurance. Meanwhile, many senior citizens have to choose between shelter and food in order to pay for their prescription drugs. The Republican prescription drug plans protect only drug companies, not people. Health care costs account for 45% of personal bankruptcies. Our country cannot afford four more years of George W. Bush and his Republican enablers. We need a president we can trust to tell us the truth about the state of our union. We need someone who rises above name-calling to do the right thing and help repair our broken international relationships. We need someone who respects all citizens and has the wisdom and experience to know when it is necessary to send our soldiers abroad. General Clark, My name is Michael McConnel. My Grandfather, Murray McConnel, was the first Deputy Director For Administration of the CIA, appointed by General Walter Bedell Smith in 1950. General Smith was a long time family friend, and I am proud of his service to our Nation, and very proud of my grandfathers service. A little know historical fact that may interest you is that President Dwight Eisenhower, when struggling to find the time and privacy to complete his seminal work "Crusade in Europe" asked his advisor General Smith where he could escape to and finish his work. It was at a simple country farm in Townshend Vermont, My grandfathers farm, that President Eisenhower found the peace and quiet necessary to finish his writing. When I visit my uncle in Townshend, I am honored to sleep in the same bed that gave rest to one of the greatest world leaders in history. General Clark, our Nation is at a pivotal turning point in history. The scourge of terror has reached our shores, our military is stretched to the limit world wide, our economy falters, and the hope that built a nation begins to wane. I work as an electrical engineer at Federal Signal Corp. Many of my co-workers vote Republican but do not care for G. Bush anymore. However they are skeptical about the usual Democratic candidates. They would likely view Mr. Clark as a good alternative, especially for a Democrat. Wesley Clark is a good match for Bush the War President. His credentials are impressive and his strong military backround is unusual for a Democratice candidate. I believe we need a centrist Democrat to beat Bush, who has a lot of Corporate, Financial and Media backing. Bush swagger's a lot because Americans have grown up watching Westerns and War Movies. I just read an article about the possibility of a presidential run by Gen. Clark and it convinced me that it would be a terrific idea. I think he should throw his hat in the ring, participate in some debates and some primaries, and see what happens. I'll certainly vote for him when he comes around - I'll write him in if he's not on by then, which hopefully he will be. I met Gen. Clark a number of years ago when I was an instructor at Presidential Classroom in Washington after he'd finished speaking before a Senate committee. He was allied commander in Europe at the time. He was very poised and thoughtful and provided great answers to my students' questions. At the time, our political history of the last 50 years didn't give me pause to think of him as a candidate because he was (very noticably) a General Officer, but thinking it over has given me a new perspective. I deperately hope he runs - I'll campaign for him if he does!

General Clark strikes me as the best chance we have to stop the Bush juggernaught in 2004. This will be a historic campaign, for all kinds of unfortunate reasons: the GOP is betting that its money-driven advertising, combined with an increasingly frivolous media, will enable its candidates to drown out all reasoned debate and serious discussion about America's growing problems, whether at home and abroad. And yet Bush is profoundly vulnerable as a candidate, as his administration has been, in fiscal, security and foreign policy terms, a great and growing disaster for the United States. These are urgent times, that call upon us to do our very best, for our country's sake and children's future. Clark strikes me as very likely the best that we can do in this situation, and I hope he will rise to this occasion and run in 2004. Dear Mr. Clark, America faces a severe crisis of leadership. I wish I could tell you I see a plethora of such people standing in line, ready and able to don the mantle of President of the United States. It amazes me that there were so many capable people doing so much to form this nation during the revolution. But the reason for that is because so many competent, hard-working patriots stood up and answered the call to serve this nation. Truth is, you are the only person I can see in this nation today who has the qualifications and the ability requisite to answer this call. And make no mistake about it: it is a calling. And if you answer the call, other patriots will stand up to help you. We just need a leader. Your balance and intelligence, and your in-depth understanding of the situation gave us confidence that we were hearing the truth. We need someone like you as our President. Mr. Clark: The other day, I heard your interview with NPR and I must say, your words were as if you were reading my mind. The current administration has to go before they run this country into the ground as a free republic. The other Democratic candidates do not excite me as they are from the same 'policy for sale' SOP that passes for governence these days. You can truly unite the unaffiliated voters such as myself and provide a viable alternative to Mr. Bush. Please enter the Democratic primary this election cycle. This is my third message to you. Although it's early in the campaign, Howard Dean appears to be the strongest at this point. I generally like what he says and admire his record (more centrist than his campaign rhetoric); however, "politically" his vocal anti-war position, combined with his lack of security credentials, makes him very vulnerable to charges by the Republicans that he is weak on national security matters. You, like Dean, speak directly (aka "not sounding like a politician") and support core Democratic principles. Unlike Dean, you can not be accused, successfully, of being weak on national security.

General Clarke, US domestic and foreign policy has a great influence around the world, especially here in Canada. (While I'm not a big fan of our current PM, at least I can vote for our leaders.) With the US, we just have to sit and watch "the lesser of two evils" as it were, battle it out at election time. There are many of us in Canada that don't really trust George Bush on many matters, from fiscal to foreign policy, and even fewer that believe he should be there for another term. I believe there are many Americans that would like to see you take the Oath of Office, but Sir, there are lots of folks throughout North America that hope you will do it to strenghten the entire continent. You don't become the Supreme Allied Commander in Europe by re-counting the right number of "chads", you've got to be a smart guy and earn it. Best wishes for whatever you decide, Sir. General Clark, America needs you. Please run for president. America needs a new president. One who is up to the challenge of our uncertain times. You have proven yourself in service of this nation's military and done so with distinction and honor. You raised important objections to the Bush administration's repeated pattern of deceit. This nation needs someone who will restore honor and dignity to the White House. It needs someone who will not back down from the all but certain vitriolic attacks from the reactionary political right. It needs someone who can bring fiscal common sense and discipline to this country's budget. It needs someone who is open and honest and does not strive to limit constitutional rights all in the false name of patriotism and a war on terrorism. It needs somneone who knows the true meaning of sacrifice and the steps necessary to ensure the strength, safety, and solvency of the United States of America. P.S. consider John Lewis of Georgia as your running mate. While you were in Vietnam and he was being beaten in order to break down segregation in the South the current duo in the White House were AWOL from military duty (and possibly using cocaine) and the other was "'too busy'" to be bothered with fulfilling his military obligation.
