Is it just me, or are there a million people
running for president?
Yeah! But I’m not really inspired by any of
them.
Wouldn’t it be great if we could create our own
president? A real dream candidate?
Yeah! We’d make him reeeeealy smart.
Rhodes Scholar! Oxford graduate!
Dream on!
Okay, West Point graduate too. First in his
class!
War hero?
Vietnam combat
veteran. 4-star general! Supreme allied commander of NATO. Just
like President Eisenhower.
(laughing) Let me get this straight: Genius, war
hero, 4-star general, how about...?
Business visionary? Chairman of a company
developing technology that could someday break our dependence on
foreign oil.
All that in one? THAT would be a dream.
No – that would be General Wesley Clark. And
that’s why we’re working to draft General Clark to run for
president. For more information, please visit

(Washington, DC) – “DraftWesleyClark.com,” a grassroots effort by citizens
working to convince former General Wesley Clark to seek the Democratic
nomination for president, today announced that it will begin running radio ads
this week to promote its “Draft the General” campaign. The ads will air
initially in New Hampshire, but work is underway to expand the effort to other
key states. The campaign also announced that it had formed local chapters that
would be meeting across the nation, starting on June 2nd.
(see http://www.DraftWesleyClark.com for ad audio and transcript)
“These radio ads mark the beginning of the ‘air phase’ of our campaign to
convince America that General Clark should be our next president,” said John
Hlinko, president of political consulting firm Extreme Campaigns, and a leader
of the DraftWesleyClark.com effort. “And starting next week, our ‘ground troops’
will begin taking this message to communities across the nation.”
Launched only seven weeks ago, the DraftWesleyClark.com movement has already
collected thousands of letters to General Clark, asking him to run. It presented
its first batch of letters to General Clark personally in New Hampshire in
mid-May. (see site to view letters)
The Air Phase: Starting in New Hampshire
The 60-second ad, entitled “Dream Candidate,” will begin airing this week on a
number of stations in New Hampshire, including WGIR, WQSO, and WPKQ. The initial
run will extend into next week in New Hampshire.
(To listen to the ad or read a transcript, please visit http://www.DraftWesleyClark.com).
New Hampshire DraftWesleyClark.com Coordinator, Susan Putney also indicated the
ads would run during WGIR's popular afternoon political talkshow The Dan Pierce
Show, as well as during Imus in the morning on WQSO. The WPKQ buy targets the
northern part of New Hampshire. The scope of the ads currently cover the
concentration of population in Manchester/Concord/Laconia south to the
Massachusetts border, over to the seacoast area and up into the northern part of
the state.
The group is raising funds to extend the reach of the ad to other key states. As
part of this effort it is selling “Draft Wesley Clark” merchandise with all
proceeds going solely to cover DraftWesleyClark.com costs.
Ground Troops: Deploying Across America
The group also announced that local DraftWesleyClark.com chapters had formed,
and would be meeting in Washington, DC, New York City, Seattle, and other cities
on Monday June 2nd.
For details on meeting times and places, see http://clark2004.meetup.com.
About DraftWesleyClark.com
The DraftWesleyClark.com campaign is not affiliated with General Clark, but is
motivated by high regard for his solid record of leadership and achievement:
Former supreme commander of NATO; First in his class at West Point; Vietnam
combat veteran; A Rhodes Scholar; A necessary voice of common sense and
moderation on the foreign policy front. The campaign leaders believe Clark is
the best possible candidate to oppose President Bush: One with the
unquestionable credentials on national security, foreign policy, and other
issues necessary to win – and to be a truly great president himself. The effort
is led by a diverse team, including John Hlinko, president of Extreme Campaigns.
In only seven weeks, it has generated thousands of letters to General Clark,
urging him to run for president.
